Modern Planet welcomes pitches about materials, making, objects, repair, and the design of shared spaces. We are interested in clear, specific ideas that help readers notice how a thing works, what choices shaped it, or where a method reaches its limits.
What makes a pitch
Send a short description of the subject, the question the piece will answer, why it matters to a curious reader, and the category it might fit. Include the likely format and any sources or relevant experience that inform your approach. A focused proposal with a distinct angle is more useful than a broad topic or a finished article sent without context.
The work we seek
Strong contributions explain rather than oversell. They make room for trade-offs, avoid unsupported claims, and give readers enough detail to follow the reasoning. We welcome reported explanations, thoughtful comparisons, process-focused pieces, and essays grounded in close observation. Do not present personal experience as universal or claim tests that were not carried out.
Sending a proposal
Please send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include your name, a way for us to reply, and a concise pitch in the message field. A proposal is not a promise of publication; if the idea fits, any scope or editorial changes can be discussed before work begins.
